As part of the extended program of this year's Art Weekend Belgrade (supported by EUNIC Serbia network), and made possible by the Austrian Cultural Forum, the collaboration between the art associations Footnote Center for Image and Text (Belgrade) and DAS WEISSE HAUS (Vienna) will be presented through a temporary exhibition and a panel discussion taking place on the 8th of June 2024.

The focus of the presentation will be on the (post)digital platform dwhX, initiated and curated by DAS WEISSE HAUS since 2021, for this occasion displayed as a video-archive in the former shop space in the underground passage under Terazije square. The second part of the programme will include a discussion between Nevena Janković, Eva Kovač and Elena Blum from DAS WEISSE HAUS team, the artist Rebecca Merlić and Mia Ćuk, the founder and coordinator of Foootnote Centre for Image and Text where the talk will take place.

DAS WEISSE HAUS is a unique self-organized art institution in Austria, the main purpose of which is to serve as a liaison between Viennese emerging and professional art scenes, different communities, and audiences, as well as between international and local artists and art professionals. Under the previous guidance of its co-founding director, Alexandra Grausam, DAS WEISSE HAUS has been making a mark in the Viennese contemporary art scene since 2007. Led by BLOCKFREI Collective since 2024 and supported by the dedicated team, DAS WEISSE HAUS works on cultivating a dynamic, experimental, and inclusive space where diverse voices converge through art, questioning and dismantling systemic barriers and advocating for more equal representation and economic justice.

The integral parts of the organization are the physical exhibition space at Hegelgasse 14 in Vienna, the elaborate studio and residency program STUDIO DAS WEISSE HAUS, and the online dwhX environment. dwhX was launched in 2021 as a digital platform dedicated to the collective experimentation, exchange, and reflection on arts and culture in relation to digitality. Conceived as a modular structure with changing programmatic rhythms and outlets, dwhX forges unconventional relationships with DAS WEISSE HAUS’s physical exhibition program and its studio and residency program. It is a hybrid organism born out of the acknowledgment that contemporary human life neither exclusively manifests in the physical world, nor entirely in the digital. Rather, we realize that we have long arrived in what has elsewhere been described as the “postdigital” or “phygital” condition.
