ARTIST IN RESIDENCE-
Footnote Centre for Image and Text, Belgrade, Serbia

Call for applications: 
February- April 2022

 

CONTEXT
The open call for a residency is aimed at artists at any stage of their careers who want to spend a period of time living and working in Belgrade, Serbia. Our Centre offers a calm place to live and work and a professional support in different areas of visual arts. Footnote Centre is an independent artist-run studio and an art publishing initiative situated in Belgrade. It is imagined as a space of encounters of different art practices with focus on visual arts, publishing, photography and text, curating, moving image as well as on different and informal educational formats and collaborations between individual art workers, artist collectives and cultural institutions. The Centre has a small in-house gallery, where the results of research can be displayed, presented and discussed in various formats (exhibitions, talks, workshops).  Alternatively, we are able to provide connections to other art institutions and galleries in Belgrade.

 

SPACE
Footnote centre is located in the historical part of Belgrade, near Slavija square. It is situated in a large salon apartment of 100 sqm, consisting of a private (residential) room, studio with a library, kitchen, two bathrooms and a balcony. The centre provides a space to work, learn, contemplate, experiment and showcase the residency outcomes or work in progress. At residents’ disposal are desk spaces and an area for presentations/talks, temporary exhibitions and screenings. The space is covered with a fast Wi-Fi, and has all the essential facilities. Our centre provides professional guidance and PR support (photo/video documentation, announcements, social media campaigns).  

 

COSTS and DATES
The duration of the residency is from two to six weeks (with the possibility of extension in cases of long-term research projects). Artists pay a standard fee of 100€ per week which go towards maintaining the space and running our centre. The dates of the residencies are flexible, and function on the basis of an open calendar, starting from February 1 through April 30, 2022. The preferred dates of the stay should be specified in the application form. Unfortunately at this stage we are unable to pay for travel costs but we will support applications for travel and other grants and stipends through invitation letters.



HOW TO APPLY
Applications are free of charge and should be made by email and should contain a CV and a portfolio of selected projects (single PDF file up to 20 pages not exceeding 10Mb). The applications should be sent at least 2 weeks before the start of the residency to info@footnotecentre.org
