Within our programme there are short and long-term residencies open to national and international artists and cultural workers (individuals or teams of up to a maximum of three persons) across disciplines—visual arts, literature, new media, design, film, photography, and other non-aligned art disciplines. The length of the residency is from 2 weeks to 2 months.
The open call for a residency is aimed at artists, photographers, designers, writers and others at any stage of their careers who want to spend a period of time living and working in Belgrade, Serbia. Our Centre offers a calm place to live and work and a professional support in different areas of visual arts. The Centre has an in-house gallery, where the results of residency research can be displayed, presented, discussed and we encourage this type of exchange. Alternatively, we are able to provide connections to other art centres and galleries in Belgrade.
Footnote centre is situated in a house dating back to 1930s located in Belgrade’s historical district of Dorćol. It is a one-story building of 130 sqm, which preserves its original arrangement. It is composed out of a large studio with a hallway, library/ reading room, two guest rooms with a balcony, kitchen, bathroom and a storage space. As our Centre is a new initiative that was established in 2020, we are working towards expanding our production capacities and to adapt the basement and attic spaces into image and printing labs.
For the duration of the residency artists live and work in the house. Guests are offered a private room of 20 square metres with a large balcony, a private toilet and a shared kitchen. The house provides a space to work, learn, contemplate, and experiment. At residents’ disposal are desk spaces and a spacious area for presentations, temporary exhibitions or screenings. The house is covered with a fast Wi-Fi, and has all the essential facilities.
Costs and dates
The duration of the residency is from two weeks to two months. Artists pay a standard fee of 100€ per week. The dates of the residencies are flexible, and function on the basis of an open calendar. The preferred dates of the stay should be specified in the application form. Unfortunately at this stage we are unable to pay for travel costs but we will support applications for travel grants and stipends through invitation letters.
How to apply
Applications are free of charge and should be made by email and should contain a CV and a portfolio of selected projects (single PDF file up to 10 pages not exceeding 10Mb). The applications should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
Because of the epidemiological circumstances, we will be unable to host big events for more than 20 people. Currently there is no lockdown in Serbia. However the situation is being updated on a daily basis. Please refer to the official Covid19 Serbia website:https://covid19.rs/
